I'm not sure what is going on here with this piece. I was looking through old drawings and thought I'd try to redraw a random character from 1993... but it turned into this instead lol I didn't really have anything planned beforehand... this just kinda created itself. I'm not terribly great with names for artwork, but I got a sense that she was suffocating... so I'm going to call it "Suffocation".

Maybe in some ways it represents how I feel about life right now. I've been laid off since the end of September wanting a job that I can take pride in and enjoy, not just another office job and definitely not a call center job. I'm not knocking those positions, I just don't want them anymore. Even still, I've been applying for them as I'm getting desperate and my unemployment will be running out. I get so frustrated I want to scream... I guess the more I think about it, the more I can relate to it. Hopefully, I'll find a job soon, and hopefully you guys will enjoy this :P

Completed entirely in Photoshop CC, with large Intuous 5 tablet.

One of the most impactful pieces I've seen in a long time. What this piece does on a level only a minority of pieces attain is such a raw, inspired, and yet masterful compostion that seems to subtly scream at you the emotion of the piece... Yet it does not feel over done or sensationalist at all. All of its power is the result of composition, not cheap shock value. I can't see this piece demands your attention--it more just takes it, without having to demand.

There are some rough bits about the piece. The graphic look has strong contrast, but it feels to me like a little bit more subtle, painterly rendering would make this piece feel stronger. The current render gets the job done, but the piece just doesn't need such strong linework to get the job done--However, let me clarify that I'm talking about the black linework on the figure. The extremely expressive linework of the bursting light and swirling hair/light is very strong and should not be changed. It's mostly just distracting on the hands, particularly the upper one, and the hair, because it flattens the piece a bit.

However, in spite of this, this piece nails the concept. It's clear that you created something that went to a much greater level than what you originally intended based on the description, and the render cannot detract from the overwhelming powerful composition--I cannot stress enough how well it works. Further, the color is pretty much perfect. It's bright in all the right places; the bloody, hazy background adds drama; and the muddy, dreary skin conveys what it's supposed to masterfully--which is establish a mood and provide a foil to the bright, bursting, dancing light. The tension could almost be described as an oppressive, physical climax. Excellent work.
